Wars in Korea and Vietnam

Describe the Korean and Vietnam Wars

Before all these wars broke out, the cold war flñared into actual wars supported by the main super powers.
On 1949, North Koreans gave a surprise attack to South Korea. The United States wanted to avoid what happened in the 1930s with Mussolini, Hitler, and the Japanese. And they decided to help South Korea resist communism. A total of 15 nations send an international force to stop North Korea invasion. By 1950, North Korea controlled the almost the entire peninsula. In September of that same year, Macarthur launched a surprised attack, about half of the North Koreans surrendered. UN forces fought to dive the Chinese and North Korea back. In 1952, the UN troops regained control of South Korea and finally in July 1953, the UN forces and North Korea signed a cease fire agreement, and the borders between the two Koreas were set near the 38th parallel.

In the Korean War, the involvement of the United States in Vietnam stemmed from its cold war containment policy. After World War II, the objective of the United States was to stop the spread of communism. Even though all these wars ended and have marked their legacy, Vietnam is a communist country and korea is still divided into communist and non-communist nations

Military struggle fought primarily in South Vietnam from 1959 to 1975. It began as an attempt by Communist guerrillas in the South, backed by Communist North Vietnam, to overthrow the government of South Vietnam. The struggle widened into a war between South Vietnam and North Vietnam and into a limited international conflict. The U.S. and 40 other countries supported South Vietnam by supplying troops and weapons, and the USSR and the People's Republic of China furnished munitions to North Vietnam. On both sides, however, the burden fell mainly on the civilians. The war also engulfed Laos, where the Communist Pathet Lao fought the government from 1965 to 1973 and succeeded in abolishing the monarchy in 1975; and Cambodia, where the government surrendered in 1973 to the Communist Khmer Rouge.

It was a war between Republic of Korea supported by the United Nations and the Democratic Republic of Korea with air support from the Soviet Union. The war was a result of the political division of Korea by a agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War. In 1945, after the surrender of Japan, American administrators divided the peninsula along the 38th parallel¨la Frontera¨, with United States troops occupying the southern part and Soviets troops occupying the northern part. Both Koreas were continuing the reunification negotiations but then it didnt work and the tension intensified. The situation turned to a open warfare when North Korean forces invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950 It was the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War.After early defeats by the North Korean troops, when a rapid UN counter-offensive defeated the North Koreans past the 38th Parallel and took them to the Yalu River, the Republic of China better known as the(PRC) came to the aid of Communist North. With Communist China's entry into the conflict, the war was against the democrats. The rapid Chinese counter-offensive repelled the United Nations forces past the 38th Parallel.End :)

When North Korea gave a surprise attack to South Korea in 1949 the United States tried to avoid their invasion by sending and promoting international forces to stop the spread of communism. Although in 1950 North Korea controlled almost the whole peninsula, UN forces drove Chinese and Korean troops back and won control over South Korea back in 1952, by 1953 North Korea and UN forces signed a cease fire agreement. The United States had the same ideals for Vietnam, stop communism but, backed up by the support of Russia, Vietnam won the war. Until the date Vietnam is still a communist party and North and South Korea are divided.
