Ok, guys, I was doing the section 1 assessement the other day, and I had my bible right next to me. Not to stress any belief-related theories, but I thought long and hard about it and came up with my own ideals about what happened so many years ago.
You see how we are said to derive from the hominid group? And how there were so many hominid species before us, until we actually became homo sapiens? If you look at it from a scientifical view, we could have just come out of nowhere and started to reproduce, thus evolving. But it's like Mr. Octavio said, like making ice cream. Maybe God, or whatever God you believe in, thought of the human species as His little experiment. In the book of Genesis, it states that God made man from dust. I'm guessing he had to observe his specimens until he realized that they weren't adequate enough to live in the world that He created for us, or just wasn't doing what He wanted us to. So he tried again, and again, until he saw how the homo sapiens, instead of adapting themselves to the Earth, they adapted Earth to their own needs.
So, even if, according to science, evolution is still happening, what if it isn't, and that's where we stopped because we were finally adequate enough to create civilzations and technology of our own?
